Electrifying Technical Organic Syntheses
~the first major technology platform that drives the transfer of electroorganic syntheses from the laboratory to industrial scale~

ETOS spokesperson Prof. Waldvogel is the new MPI Director

Since December 1, 2023, Prof. Siegfried R. Waldvogel has been the Director of the new Department of Electrosynthesis at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC) in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The focus of his department is on electrosynthesis, in which mostly waste and residual streams are converted into valuable chemicals that are essential for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries by feeding in electricity. Already in his previous position as a full professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), Prof. Waldvogel focused his research on the entire spectrum of electrolysis development, from novel screening methods to upscaling of electrosynthetic conversions. At the MPI CEC, he continues to pursue his passion for research into the sustainable and climate-neutral production of organic and inorganic materials.

Preparations are currently underway for 12 of the 15 ETOS projects to move from JGU to MPI CEC on 01.04.2024. This means that the MPI CEC and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology will be the lead institutions of the BMBF Future Cluster ETOS and the ETOS region will expand. JGU will remain part of the cluster with 3 projects.
