E-CACAO Electrochemical carboxylation from the multiple bond system to free carboxylic acids |
E-CACAO researches the electrosynthetic and direct incorporation of CO2 into multiple bonds to form carboxylic acids. The material conversion of greenhouse gases into valuable substances is both a scientifically and economically attractive goal.
The technical importance of carboxylic acids and the good availability of CO2 predestine such electrochemical processes to achieve technical relevance in the future. As a significant market volume is expected for various carboxylic acids, the CO2 balance will be sustainably improved.
To achieve these goals, the electrochemical and engineering expertise of Johannes Gutenberg University and Evonik will be bundled and thus represent an interdisciplinary cooperation.
