Electrifying Technical Organic Syntheses
~the first major technology platform that drives the transfer of electroorganic syntheses from the laboratory to industrial scale~

ESSENZ

Electrochemical screening and highly efficient optimization with practical relevance

In ESSENZ, an electrosynthetic twin laboratory is being established at the industrial partner. The aim of this laboratory is to pair the screening activities with the Johannes Gutenberg-University and thus achieve an unusually fast and efficient transfer to application.

The focus here is on the use of electrochemical transformations for the production of specialty chemicals and active ingredients. Modern optimization methods will be used. Scaling up selected processes to pilot plant scale is then planned.

The joint pool of know-how, equipment, etc. will enable the expansion and joint use of research infrastructure, which will allow unusually rapid and highly efficient upscaling and thus a direct and rapid transfer to application. To achieve the objectives, the electrochemical and process expertise of Merck Electronics KGaA and Johannes Gutenberg-University are bundled and thus represent a cross-disciplinary cooperation.
